Mr Tan Whee Boon
Mr Tan Whee Boon used to work as a technician but his life took a dreadful transformation when he was taken ill from food poisoning on 13 July 2015. In the last-ditch attempt to save him, the drug that was used caused both his hands and legs to turn gangrene. Eventually all his four limbs had to be amputated. He was vastly devastated and as a sole breadwinner for the family, he was at his wit’s end to provide for them. Fortunately, financial helps of sorts did come from good Samaritans after his plight was featured in the local media.
Touched by the Lord
In his darkest hour, he was led to Jesus Christ and was deeply touched by the Lord. He soon found a new passion in wheelchair rugby as a sport. He even made it to the national team and competed at regional levels.
Mr Tan has agreed to come onboard as one of Run For Light 2018 run ambassadors. He just hopes to inspire people to live healthily. He will be doing the 1KM blindfold walk with a close buddy, ‘brother Goh’ on 3 Mar, Saturday at Punggol Waterway. Please remember to give him the loudest cheers on event day!
