Lilian aka Meijuan

My name is Lilian aka MeiJuan but I am affectionately addressed by my family as AH MEI.

I was dealt a devastating blow when my husband passed away in 2002 and I am also a Stage 2B (aggressive carcinoma) breast cancer survivor too.

I will fight on!

Despite all these setbacks, I am determined to provide for my family and I am proud that I have single-handedly raised up my two lovely children, a 17-year old boy and a 19-year old girl. Our home is a modest 3-bedroom flat in Ang Mo Kio but I am very contented as I know God has always watched out for me and my family.

Some years ago, I was introduced to cycling by a group of friends which has opened a new path for me. Through cycling, I got to know more friends and before it dawned on me, I was already doing triathlon events in 2014 and 2015. This is something I have never imagined I would be doing. While I was enjoying every bit of my outdoor activities, I was handed the bad news on 13 October 2015. I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Initially, I found it hard to accept that an active and healthy person like me could have been struck with such deadly disease. I was even questioned why that person must be me.

It is also thanks to my strong belief in my faith during the trying period where I constantly draw strength from. Renowned musician, Karl Jenkin who wrote this musical piece, “Lament” played by euphonium has always been the constant reminder on how blessed I am to overcome all the trials and tribulations and eventually, emerge even stronger. I will fight on. 🌱

I am very grateful to be invited by the organiser to join as one of the run ambassadors for ‘Run For Light 2018’ and to share my life journey here. Through my humble story, I hope I can send an inspirational message to the less privilege ones that there is always light at the end of the tunnel – never give up! As this event is in support of the Guide Dogs Singapore Ltd (GDS) for the three-consecutive year, I hope the proceeds and donations from well-wishes will help them in their worthy cause.

On 3 Mar, Saturday I will be joining the rest of the run ambassadors who each has their own inspiration story to share at the start line. Make a date with us.
